Lead Source Locking

We need a way to track the lead source of an opportunity/customer indefinitely.

Example:
- We get a new lead from a Google Adwords ad campaign.
- We sell and complete the work for this new customer.
--- 6 months later they want us to bid some additional work
--- The salesman selects "Existing customer" as the lead source
--- We sell and complete the work.

Yes, this is technically an "Existing Customer"...but the actual source of this opportunity was the Google Adwords ad campaign.

Currently, we have no way to know this unless the salesman already knows this information AND they select it from the lead source dropdown.

We need a way to auto-assign or lock the lead source to the lead source selected during the initial setup of the opportunity.

  • Hi Travis,

    The lead source is intended to be used when tracking a lead at the opportunity level.  In your example, when you initially get the lead, you should select the lead source as Google Adwords.  If 6 months later, there is another opportunity, you should not turn on lead tracking as it is already a client with a previously sold opportunity.  At this point in time, you can use a custom field (either on the opportunity level or property level) to capture that it is an existing customer.  Please feel free to reach out to me so I can show you how to capture this information in the system.
